![]() Located on Grand Avenue in the village of Leland, Effie's is an assisted living residence. It is named for Effie Johnson (Mrs. Pete Johnson), a native of Leelanau County. Effie and Pete built their home on this property and began their life together here in the early 1930's. Effie, who lived to be 92 years old, was the oldest working librarian in the state of Michigan and a beloved member of the Leland community. The mission of Effie's is to provide a comfortable home setting which recognizes the individual needs and desires of its residents and provides in these areas accordingly. Situated in the heart of Leland, Effie's is within walking distance of the post office, library, museum, local restaurants, shopping, and, of course, the International Coffee Club. This lovely home consists of four one-bedroom apartments, each with a private covered porch, full bath, call buttons, zoned thermostat and mini-kitchen. There are also four studio bedrooms with covered porches, full baths, call buttons, and zoned thermostats.
